Keenagers:  Next Program

The next Keenagers Luncheon will be on
Tuesday, May 19 at 12:30 p.m. in the Barr Center Dining Room. Topic: Carolina Wildlife Care with Joanna Weitzel. Carolina Wildlife Care is a
non-profi t organization dedicated to caring for and rehabilitating injured wildlife. Their goal is to return animals to the wild as quickly as possible.   We will learn about the center and discover ways in which we can assist in their efforts. Please bring an item from CWC wish list. This list is also posted on the bulletin board in the Barr Center. Lunch is $5.00. Reserve your place by contacting our parish receptionist, Nancy Garvin, by Monday, May 18.

Keenagers: An Introduction

Keenagers is the St. John's Senior Group. Seniors meet on the third Tuesday of each month from September to May in the Barr Dining Room at 12:30 p.m. Lunch is prepared, and the cost is $5.00 per person. After lunch, a 30 minute program is presented. If you are interested in attending, call Nancy Garvin in the church office a few days before the meeting to make a reservation for lunch. If you forget, come anyway!

At the beginning of the year, a sign-up sheet is passed around for hosts/hostesses. Hosts/hostesses serve for one meeting, set up the room for lunch, and help as needed in the kitchen. At the end of the year, all who are willing gather for a short time after the last meeting to offer suggestions for programs for the next year.

The group is very open to suggestions for speakers. Members of the congregation with an interesting offering are encouraged to call the contact person below.  As a general rule, we don't have funds for paid speakers. Once a year, a speaker usually comes from a non-profit agency such as Palmetto Place. On that day, donations of goods (such as toiletries, etc.) are brought for the agency. Occasionally, the group will plan a day trip. We have been to Charleston and to Congaree National Park.  Check out our photo album.

The "leader" of Keenagers serves a term of two years.  For more information, call Susan Milton, 739-9469.  Download the Keenagers' Schedule, 2008 - 2009.

SC Access:
Resource for Senior Citizens

With the population aging, and with millions of baby boomers set to retire very soon, Lt. Governor Andre Bauer believes we need to be very proactive in providing resources and tools to ensure that our seniors age gracefully and with dignity.  SC Access is a South Carolina web site that is designed to provide information about resources for older adults, people with disabilities and family members and caregivers.  It provides information for South Carolinians with concerns and questions about aging.  Visit SC Access today.  For more information, contact the Lt. Governor's Office on Aging, (803) 734-9900.
