Parish Life

Events

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
On the last night before Lent, a season of penitence leading to Easter, St. John's celebrates Shrove Tuesday with a pancake supper.   The Men of St. John's cook and serve pancakes and sausage to the parish.  See pictures of our feast.

Kanuga Weekend
Each February, the annual parish weekend is held at the Kanuga Conference Center in Hendersonville, North Carolina. The Kanuga Weekend Committee plans all programs and entertainment for the weekend. All ages, families and singles alike attend the weekend. Scholarships are available.

Pentecost Luncheon
Pentecost is the "birthday of the Church." On this day, the Holy Spirit inspired the apostles and tongues of fire rested on each.  To celebrate Pentecost, St. John's enjoys a luncheon or picnic. Often we recognize those who have served in different ministries and programs throughout the year, such as Sunday school teachers, choirs, basketball coaches and players, scouts, and acolytes. See photos of a past Pentecost.

Gravatt Day
The annual parish picnic is held on a Sunday in May at the Bishop Gravatt Center near Aiken. The parish gathers for a service by the lake and shares a picnic lunch. Games for all ages are offered, and the children love swimming in the lake!  See photos.

Trunk or Treat
Too old to trick or treat, the EYC hosted a Trunk or Treat for youngsters Halloween afternoon.  They treated the kids to fun, games and (of course) candy in the parking lot of Strobler's Furniture.  See a past ghastly gallery.

Women's Retreat

The women's retreat is held in March.  It is held at Palm Key, near Hilton Head Island.   In the past, the theme was "Space for Spirit: Renew, Rekindle and Reconnect."  This is an annual event, and all women are welcome to attend.
